MQA Discussion

This is quite a thread and I've been away from it for some time. While I do like that I can do full MQA via my Oppo 205, I'm still quite happy with a first unfold only (Tidal via Roon) to my Esoteric K-03X). I'm no longer pursuing hardware for the sake of MQA capabilities. if the format becomes a standard, I'm sure I'll be covered at some point with a future DAC purchase.

I'm in the same situation at this point. Using my Oppo 205 as streamer and Roon endpoint, and full MQA decoder. I would like to be able to use my Bryston BDP3 as the player, but it won't work with the 205 as DAC, through USB. I've asked here a few times, and neither James nor anyone else who can help me has responded. Oppo says the BDP doesn't have the right drivers.

The Oppo’s MQA And DSD DAC functionality is restricted to USB when used with Roon.

As a Roon network endpoint, both DSD and MQA aren’t working.

Well, I'm hooked up by ethernet in only, and my Roon signal path indicates I'm getting full MQA. Maybe I should check with Oppo about what's going on?

Roon will unfold the first level of MQA up to 24/96.

Well, that's pretty uninformative there. But, under the line "Authentication" it says:

"MQA Studio 192khz. So Am I getting the real deal or not?

What is your Oppo "info screen" showing you for input and output audio?

Thanks for the link-something to study, including other links within that one. Very confusing and muddy as well. Also many of those posts predate the latest update by quite a bit. That may have changed things.

I must say I have been very disappointed with Roon "support". I bought a Nucleus + and it was DOA. they've been dicking around with me for a month, getting me to jump through all sorts of hoops, and basically doing nothing for me. It's going back, I'm afraid.
