If you get a separate preamp, the normal pass through function keeps the preamp and power amps separate. So no room correction.

One way to get room correction with this kind of a setup is to connect your sources to both your preamp and your MX 151. You could use ‘Y’ cables.

Some sources have multiple outputs, maybe one XLR and one RCA.

I do this with my OppO UDP 205. The XLR audio outs go into my C 1100 preamp and the unbalanced outs go to the MX 151. If I’m listening to a 2 channel SACD I can choose room correction with the MX 151 or not with the C 1100.

Same advice I gave him on that other forum. However, I don't think he understands the concept as do we. In all fairness, the Passthru feature itself is foreign to most enthusiasts. I didn't have time to go in-depth either.

I never thought of trying that back when I had my MX150 and pass thru setup. That is interesting, did you ever compare the sound between the two?

Nice, flexible solution. Just curious, any reason you don't use the 2nd balanced output to go from c1100 to mx151?

Never mind, my bad. You're going from oppo not c1100.

I have compared the sound between the MX 151 and C 1100. Because the MX 151 uses Room Perfect and also a big JL Gotham sub, its a bit of an apples to oranges comparison. But I find the C 1100 to be a tad cleaner and more open.

So I use the MX 151 for 5.1 channel SACD's and the C 1100 for everything else.

I thought about that, but while the C 1100 has 3 outputs, they are not independent, so I haven't figured out how to do it. There isn't another audio path you could use for a source, since the C 1100 source in passthrough is the MX 151.

When the MX 151 sends a passthrough signal to the C 1100 the following things happen.

1. The C 1100 powers ON.
2. The C 1100 sets its input to the passthrough input. This is connected to the MX 151 main outputs.
3. The C 1100 sets its gain from passthrough input to output at 0 dB.
