Default Bunkered up with Apps but no 5.1

Lots of extra viewing these days, but cannot get 5.1 sound (Stereo only)out of either my onboard Netflix or Prime Audio Apps (Sony XBR860 output is Optical to MX 151). Checked to be sure the movie watched on Prime and the series watched on Netflix were both 5.1 and looks like yes. Am I doing something wrong?

I am wondering the same thing on my newly acquired MX151.

The input to the MX is via the Samsung QLED TV via optical.

When I select the TV function I see all my 5.1 inputs lit up on the front screen but I am not getting any sound.

It has to be either output levels or some selected function/input setup settings I've missed.

Back to the menu I go!

There are two options on the amazonTV app to check. One, go to settings and then audio, then verify you are using Dolby digital plus surround or automatic. Then for movies, check the handheld remote and for each movie watched, there is the options tab...it’s the little notebook like symbol, it has 3 vertical lines on it. You have to do this with the movie you are watching...click the 3 line button on the Amazon TV remote, select Dolby Digital Surround. More than likely it will be default to Dolby Digital Stereo...I think they are conserving bandwidth. But, once you do this, that movie will be in surround if it has surround. You have to do this for each streamed movie as Amazon defaults to the stereo output, probably to save bandwidth, or not think that movieholics would not know the difference. Good luck

I’ve given up hope on TV apps these days.

My old Panasonic TV stopped supporting their apps after about 2 years. YouTube stopped working. Netflix stopped working. And then the TV channel apps stopped working one by one.

These days I just use an AppleTV 4K. Even on an older gen AppleTV still gets apps updated.

Right now I believe it’s the only way to get Dolby Vision and Atmos on DisneyPlus.

Thanks but what hand held remote, what Amazon TV remote? All I have is the Sony Remote that came with the TV itself and the Harmony Universal Remote I set up myself. Am grateful for your info, but just unsure what you mean...

Not sure if this would help, but in my TV/Theater setup (non McIntosh) I believe I could output the 5.1 optical (Dolby Digital only) to the Optical input on my Oppo BD-203 and then output from that source to the Marantz AVR.

Have any of you tried to insert an additional source component into this chain that is digital optical ready and that you know does work with the MX151?

Good questions: Yes, I am seeing 5.1 off my HTPC using a Ceton Tuner and I see 5.1 off my rather old LG Blu Ray Player. It's just the bloody TV apps where I am not seeing 5.1. Net is I can't blame the 151.

I see. It's got to be something in the settings. Have you hit all the sub menus? I'm thinking some little innocuous check box that needs checking.

Thanks, Michael. Believe I did all that. Maybe the "not every episode in every language" is an issue, but will look tonight again. Thanks to Freddie also. I will look for that type of tricky little check box for sure.
