I've been reading Jim Smith's Get Better Sound and I've already realized some nice benefits from a few of the tips.

Awww, shucks...thanks, Julian. You're so kind that I was almost about to swap my new Sophias for your speakers, but the WAF got in the way.

Thanks, Mike...thanks, Reg.
If you want to do some in-room measurements, let me know...I am all set up with that and can help get you started.

Here for example, are some in-room measurements that I've some with my setup.

My set up when I started playing around with my Rel. Gold trace is my speaker w/o sub, purple trace with the sub integrated.

With sub set up to produce the larger peak you see between 20 and 50 Hz (to provide flattest "perceived" in-room bass response).

Rather than an omni mike, you'll need a "calibrated" microphone, like a Dayton EMM-6 or Behringer; in particular you need the calibration file for your specific microphone. Also need a mike preamp and a software package, like Room Eq Wizard, which is free and runs on both PCs and or Macs.
