HD 800 v HD 800s
Anyone compared the two? I'm very curious,

Headfi have waffled on and on about the s. There might be valid comparisons but you'd have to wade through a heap of pages. From what I gather it negates the treble brightness and bumps up the bass a tad, so is probably better, but I don't know how much.

Thanks, too bad we just can't hear them!

My Audeze LCD-XC 'phones pretty much solved both of those problems, and added some much-needed isolation to boot!

On the other hand, there is a Senn engineer laughing his head off on the s on the 'tube in an interview. And an owner says there is still the treble issue. As it stands, probably not enough difference to warrant purchase, but we will see.

Had a chance to compare the two models at CES last week. There is a subtle difference. It's not a matter of better or worse. It's a matter of individual preference and the equipment you connect them to.

I am in the market for a new pair (upgrading from my long serving AKG K701s). Spent about an hour with both using a Woo Audio WA22 and PS Audio DS DAC with Cardas Clear cables. A/B comparison was hard to pick if one was better than the other. I would find it extremely hard to pick which is the newer one in a blind test.

As a happy 800 owner I don't hear any "treble problem," I hear a well-balanced headphone with realistic highs. My hope is they didn't just succumb to the popular trend in high-end headphones of over-accentuated bass and rolled off highs to create a "smooth" sound.

And dont forget that some of the best audiophile labels like http://www.2l.no/ and http://www.soundliaison.com/ actually use them when recording. If they start using the ''s'' I will consider upgrading. Quote:
