Nope, nothing to lose. The LP27a responds to different input tubes. Roll some with 6V6's and you may be surprised. Try the CV181-T in the pre and the T-II in the amp with your ST 6V6's.

Ok, you mean the G ST's with an 80 rectifier and CV-181's in both units... A new tube-rolling can of worms this preamp, something I was not at all aware of The more I learn about these two units the less I understand SS fans being content with plain vanilla flavors! They may argue this is coloration, but SS is colored also and is always the same color. Time to dial-in the LP-27a

Only one power transformer accommodation? Looks like a PSE Preamp with voltage regulators (OA3 type). Otherwise, if there are accommodations for the output transformers, this is another PSE amp with tube voltage regulation.

I'm taking it to the shop this morning with 8 pins installed, I think Dennis is going with KT-88's I have the output transformers painted, Dennis will build this one up then we will make template revisions and cut another one (or two) for the metal fabricator to copy.

5 pins too...

I installed different tube sockets and took pics for fun before taking it to the shop

Got a pair of 807 and KT8C recently:

807
KT8C

807: (on about 120hr burn in) (extremely bright for the first 50hr)
Not as airy as KT88, but a more analog sound per se.
It's hard to nail down exactly how they sound, the only thing I can really say is, "not bad", haha. Love them on guitars.

KT8C:
Meh, opinion might change after 100hr+ burn in. (at 30hr now)

edit:
Now that I think of it, I don't think I ever listed my impressions of kt120 I bought.
While they do add more bass impact, they're too neutral for my tastes, almost lifeless? Meh in my book.

I saw those, did a search and passed. What amp do you have? I don't recall.
