It doesn't completely explain it, but Wilson speakers are made in the U.S. by workers who like to have health insurance, retirement plans, etc. - the people making Sasha 2s are not making minimum wage.

The costs of the milling equipment also rise over time - the bits used to cut and shape X material are expensive and don't last very long.

If you want to see Wilson keep costs down they could move manufacturing to Asia, as most speaker manufacturers have - but would you want to see that?

I don't recall exactly how much the WATT cost,
but seem to recall it was in the $4,000 price range.

Since this was the original precursor of the Sasha - I think the prices have, indeed, gone up (a bunch)
ALTHOUGH:

I just looked at an inflation calculator and . . . if a pair of the Wilson Audio Tiny Tots (WATT) cost $4,400 in 1985 - this would equal $9,758.43 in today's dollars - and this was just for the tweeter and midrange in what would become the top section in the future Watt/Puppy.

Thinking about all the advancements made in the speakers over the years in its various iterations, today's pricing really doesn't seem too extraordinary. . ..

I see your point. Years ago I didn't care how much I spent. Now, even though I make and have more money, I set limits on how much I'll pay for a particular component.
