Thats the reason why it was part of his review of the Rondo speaker. But that happened 20 years ago when there was no US Shindo dealer on the spot. |

The kit products, during this time period were the the Claret, Pavillon Rouge and the Palmer. The Palmer was available in only three versions - the 2A3, WE VT52 and the Cetron 300B. Shindo supplied high quality Sylvania and Westinghouse 2A23 tubes with his kit amp. Cetrons were also supplied at some point for those who wanted 300B kits. So, yes, I stand by my last post that the Palmer was NOT available in a PX4 version and Shindo never had a PX4 amplifier in production. The close character of the PX4 and 2A3 made it possible to modify the amp appropriately, to accept PX4. Roland's amplifier was a Plamer modified to accept the PX4 tube. -M |

I would raise them too like they did to get the image higher for my preference. |

maybe a bit too tall for Valencias? - but yeah cabinet wise they look much closer to a Valencia than the Altec "Magnificent", which were essentially an inverted A7-500 "prettified" for the domestic environment. Component wise also much closer to a Valencia (or A7-800), interesting and beautiful nonetheless
if the measurements in the listing are correct (1234mm/48.5" H), then they do seem to be raised quite high? |

Yes, not exact.
I know he experimented with taller legs on early Valencia type speakers (photo on his site) but the bass drop off was too great so the only way to get the horn height higher is with blocks underneath them. Beautiful work. And applause for bringing back the golden age of audio, even better. |

Shindo Palmer wasnt available with PX4 tubes from Shindo himself but as this kit amp was able to accept different power tubes with only minor mods on the heating supply some people choosed PX4 tubes instead of Cetron 300B or other tubes supplied by Shindo himself with his kit.
R. K. bought the amp as a kit, soldered it (poorly) and tested it as a self modified version for Hifi Exclusiv in 1994 with PX4 tubes. At A23 this amp was used with different tubes for a long time as the main power amp, using old stock WE300B tubes most of the time. Pretty amazing sound at that time. |
