I'm not a fan of the new Targa tops, basically just an over weight convertible .. I went with the hard top, classic look with sunroof option ... here's a little video I made of mine after delivery...

And yes, those are yellow seatbelts... love em, or hate em, I don't care, as I love em!

Nothing like the smell and sound of a new Porsche. Enjoy! Nice specs. Having the option of custom building your own Porsche with the trim, colors and performance options is always great. I've owned a "few" over the years both coupe and convertible but never a Targa.

Yes, it was good to be able to check the exact boxes I wanted .. my only regret is not getting the front axle lift, as I also got the 10mm lower suspension with my options but as it was my dealer said it's the most expensive Carrera 4S he's sold to date in his 15 years selling Porsche.

It's ok, you get used to it. My first GT3 was before they offered the axle lift and it was scraping with its rubber chin spoiler everywhere I went. The next one I made sure to get it but truth be told it gets old pushing that button every time you enter or leave a parking lot, speed bumps, etc... With the few Ferrari cars I owned, it was a real pain in the butt... That got old real quick.

In fact driving around town in a performance car is a drag in itself. All those ponies and no place to let them loose. I used to enjoy the back roads and ahem... "spirited drives" but one can only push their luck so many times.

It wasn't until I hit the track a few times that I realized how silly the whole thing is to drive cars like that on the street.

So back to the Targa... Nice scenic drives with open air feeling, sane, reasonable and prudent speeds is what I enjoy most these days. Hardly need a Porsche for that since my Wrangler Rubicon has a push button open top option but the heart wants what it wants... The Porsche dream dies last.

Oh man, you had a GT3? I may never have the extra $ to do it, but one of these days I'd like to get a GT3... or maybe if I win the lottery a GT2RS..

A few GT3's a GT3RS a Cayman R, a few Boxster Spyders, a Cayenne GTS, a C4S, a few Turbos of various generations. All good fun but like I said, all those horses and no place to gallop... Going at twice the speed limit is still boring in all of them... They have gotten faster, heavier and more capable over the decades but all that performance in the chariots of the gods has killed the fun for the mere mortals driving them.

yeah, but I can tell you this much, as a single man... I pick up a gal in this car, then take it onto the freeway and show her that sub 3 second to 60 acceleration and I'm sure to get lucky that night

Indeed. There are simply too many of us driving on too few roads that are 'entertaining' these days. That is the primary reason I no longer will own a stick-shift vehicle. "Rowing" one's way thru traffic has lost all its allure. I'll guess that Porsche sells 9 automatic (by any other name) vehicles for every 1 manual shift vehicle, including the 911. Would guess it is an even higher ratio for BMW. Does Lexus or any of the Japanese hi-end marques even offer a stick?

Serge - do you think there is a chance we've gotten 'more mature'.
