Damn Nagra knows how to design amplifiers.
Probably in a very very very very small room!

Massimo,
Maybe that the MXR are not so good after all. The little Swiss engineers are extremely talented. They are not good only for banking and chocolate !
Or it is the power of tubes !!!

Thanks for the warm welcome. Post #2 here.

Massimo, it was actually a pretty large room, 18ft ceilings, maybe 20ft wide and 40ft deep (living room was totally open into dining room).

Sasha's are efficient, but slightly tough to drive and I did hear the MXR's first (fully warmed up-they do take a day or so). I love my MXR's, I really do, but I'll have to try this Nagra 300p at home soon. We listened to his MXR's for about 30 min first. Honestly I was diggin the sound and was pretty doubtful some puny 20 watter was going to challenge them. I thought maybe more beautiful in the mids...but couldn't just challenge it all over.

The Nagra 300p has a meter that displays a few things. Power output and bias settings for one. I never saw the meter go over about 2 watts. Which is about 3/4's of the way on the meter scale readout. (meter scale tops out at 20 watts)

It has that Nagra purity to the signal, those that have heard Nagra know this, in spades. Again the depth on the bass and the quietness we're the real surprise here. The mids were beautiful. But so was everything else!

Again, I'd have to try the Nagra at home to be definitive, but the initial listen is very promising. Sweet amp for sure !

Jérôme,
you forget that I have a full Nagra (PL-L, CDC, VPA) audio system.

Massimo, very nice set up you have. My dealer has VPA's on the floor to, so when I try the 300p, I'll likely listen the VPA's as well...I'll post back. I suspect knowing nagra one won't be better just different. Might be during the holidays before I have the time to get to it.

What speakers are you using with your Nagra gear?

duuuh! I am having a bit of a slow day Massimo
Very nice

The VPAs have no problems driving the Utopia III Diablos? That is quite impressive. I am very intrigued by the 845 and 211 tubes. I would love my next amplifer to be in the 50 wpc Class A, preferably SET topology, using either of those tubes. Of course the speaker will need to be fairly sensitive and more importantly an easy load above 6ohms at least for much of the audio band.

Congratulations on a very nice combination

From 6moons review "Nagra VPA vs 300P":

"This is where pros go on the one hand this and on the other that, hem and haw, while I’ll blurt it right out. No one who can afford to spend €16.300 list for the 300p should consider scrimping on the extra €5.000 or so for the VPAs even taking into account the enticing, expensive (over €1.500 list) and notionally effective VFS base obligatorily included with the smaller amp. Anything the 300p can do the VPA monoblocks can do as well or better. Power doesn’t come into it though the 845s certainly do give you greater speaker choice."
