Got my wings
After some 20+ year hiatus and not flying RC airplanes at an AMA recognized club, I have finally made my way back into the hobby and successfully piloted an RC airplane, (takeoff, flying pattern around the field and landing) and was signed off as a PILOT once again.
Since my absence in the hobby, many have made the transition from nitro glow fuel to silent and clean electric power and the bigger gas powered models that run on regular and dirt cheap by comparison 87 octane vs the $30 plus per gallon of nitro glow fuel. My dream has always been a nice, giant scale aerobatic model and a giant scale warbird. This winter I will attempt to build and finish a 25% scale model first. Eventually I'd like to get all the way up to 40%. Some giant scale examples performing aerobatics and 3D maneuvers. I will never forget my cousin Ron's maiden flight. He had spent 200 hours building a balsa replica of a Piper Cherokee. It was so big he used a G.I. Joe as the pilot. We launched that bad boy in a perfect take off, watched it fly straight and true over a tree line, and ........ then never saw it again. The radio control failed. I think the darn thing must have flown to Dayton.

Congratulations Serge.
I am a bit concerned that you might start mixing hobbies since you are also into weapons. |

No weapons guys! Only peaceful enjoyment of model aviation for me.
It was nice to stop by the club flying field one sunny morning during the week and I just happened to meet and listen to some stories from a WWII veteran that was there. Not too many WWII vets around anymore considering he was 92! The guy was still sharp as a tack and shared many memories over the few hours. He was a tank commander and saw action starting from North Africa campaign and on through the whole war. He was also a model aviation fan all his life. |
