You bring up a good point. I know of a member that swapped out his HD with the correct one, used the Golden CD, but the system seems to be looking to connect and verify the software version and as it can't (no more software support) the system is stuck in th forever loop of "looking to update".

Any suggestions for the member?

Michael

So after you ISO'ed the system, it will be stuck with that old software forever... unless someone finds a way to update the software to version 2.7.0.1 without the online update service. By the way, EASUS software has a free version that can do the disk cloning very well.

FYI This worked for me. Still will be at old firmware but stop asking to register. I resolved the registration issue after a call to Mcintosh tech support. Basically just press macro then 1 then 5555 on the remote.

Hope this helps... David.

Does this also apply when starting a new hard disk with a gold cd? ultimately when the device software is not installed?

Cemil

I don't know as I had this issue when I did a factory restore on mine and it couldn't register because the servers have been taken offline. I never used the "golden CD" as I don't have a copy.

David.

I would try this. I had no idea of this "trick"! Great knowledge sharing here.

Thank you

I'm still trying to find the famous "golden CD". Can anyone tell me where I can get a copy?

Thanks, David.

Do a little reading of the thread and you can see who replies to the question about where to find one. PMs are also responded to right away... I have been involved with this issue for a number of years as well.
