Mike.......Nice job on the dial pointer lamp. You'll have the MR78 looking like new in no time.

Replaced the deteriorated foam to help block light from bleeding through to the dial...

Normally I'm not a "leave it alone, it's good enough" kind of guy. However, in this case, all but one of the caps were in good shape so I only replaced this one on the power supply board.

Here's another zoomed out look at the power supply board and the leaky capacitor.

...and finally a shot showing the final illumination. Very nice, even illumination across the dial and the panel.

That is one sweeet tuner! People can say what they want about McIntosh - the company has had its share of criticism here lately - but its tuners have always been great. Yours is well worth the effort you put into it. Nice job!

Thanks guys.

When I got it from my brother to simply replace a few lamps, it was dusty and the chrome appeared to have a few rust spots. Other than that and the few burnt out lamps, it seemed it was in fair to pretty good condition, maybe a 7/10.

When I pulled off the cages to take a peek and to clean up the dust, I immediately realized the rust was merely stains from where the steel cages meet the chrome. I cleaned and oiled the cages and removed all the rust from the chrome. After giving it a good cleaning & polishing, it's now spotless and I'd put it at a solid 9 out of 10.

I tend to obsess a bit over things at times and this was one of those times. I suspect he knew that I'd obsess and I'd give it the full treatment plus some. Anyways....I really don't want to give it back to him now!
