Charles, well. No, the Q7 is what I have imagined my dream speakers will sound. And I like it a lot.
I just like the new color of the Grande. It must be beautiful in my room, More so than the Q7 do. Toga. Last edited by TOGA; 08-31-2013 at 10:12 AM. |

Toga, I understand. The XLF is my dream. I will stop when I finally get a pair. But I agree with you, the Focal's are among the most beautiful speakers I have seen. I am sure they sound the same. My main problem besides the money is the lack of a dealer nearby. For me, if I bought one it would be my last speaker.

Ivan, seriously I mean it. If I did not want to experience the sound of a statement speaker system I'd quit now. I can't fault my Maxxes in any way. I usually keep my speakers for about 7-10 years and I may decide not to buy the XLF. It's going to be the hardest decision I will ever make audio wise.
Have you noticed how the speakers that employ Be tweeters uniformly must crossover higher up in the midrange than Wilsons? The big Focal has a lot of similar design features to big Wilsons but the handover to the Be tweeter requires a smaller diameter midrange. These types of tweeters (diamond included) do not have the low frequency extesion of Ti's and silk domes. |

Charles, congrats on XLF upgrade. As a previous Sophia 3 user, I am sure XLF are one of the best as well. I've heard Grande at length twice or so, with T+A hybrid tower monoblock once, and with Octave even larger tower mono block. on the latter case, tweeters were giving too much, it could be the all Audioquest WEL cabling, or the improper setting of jumpers on Grande.
I thought I could use Thiel CS3.7 for 10-20 years before too. less than a year later the Salon2 came, followed by Sophia 3 and Magico Q3 and now.. So I get the point of Ivan on his comments. But with Q7, It made me short of $$$ enough not to play around with other speakers for times to come. Toga |

Then my Qsub will, come 2015 or later too..
It s a good chance for you to wait , Wilson might release a XLF X2 or a mark II things by that time who knows. Again, I never be able to afford such extreme sub, anyway, further discussion regarding subs if you will, pls Just reply in my Magico Q subwoofer thread, don't wanna bore Focal fans here, too much.. |
