Default 6T vs 7T

To the original poster -
2 years ago I had the chance to listen to both speakers, side by side as demo'ed by the Aerial designer and owner - Michael Kelly, in a shop in the Boston area (just north, in Nashua New Hampshire). I believe GreginNH also obtained his 7T's from the same shop.

The 6T's are 2/3 of the total volume and 2/3 of the price of the 7T's. They use the same line of drivers (Scan-Speak of Denmark), enclosures designed here but fabricated in China, and crossovers designed and built in Boston (Wilmington to be precise).

In comparison, the 7T's go deeper (28 vs 35 Hz) and have a better midrange. The enclosure is also more strongly built and better braced. Side-by-side, with several types of music, the differences were deep bass, which the 7T was noticeably better (but the music had to be selected to emphasize bass - Boz Scaggs 'Dig' album was used). The 7T's also had better dynamics - more punch. The 6T by virtue of the narrow profile has perhaps sharper imaging, but subtle.
In our listening room, the narrow profile of the 6T's won out. I augment them with REL subs, which are located closer to the listening spot and work very well.

Over all, if I were doing it again, I think the 7T's would win, and maybe skip the subs. But, no regrets. However, integrating the REL's was eye-opening (ear-opening?) for me at least.

Hope this helps.
