Default Looking for advice on equalizers

I am trying to find a fairly low-cost equalizer. I know this is a controversial subject with many. I am not trolling.

Has anyone had any actual experience with units like the DBX 1231 or 2231? Are there others in this range that work and don't cause too many side effects? Thanks, in advance, for any input.

Why do you feel you need an EQ?

I am trying to deal with some recordings that are harsh to my ear. I generally like to run my pre-amp in 'tone bypass' mode, but for some recordings, I find I can't listen for very long. I find I just don't listen to them much because I don't like the sound quality.

If there is a better answer, please tell me what it is. Thanks.

I have to agree. I have my eye on a pair of Wilson Sashas, but it will be a while. A quick economic upturn could shorten the cycle.

Joe, I didn't suggest Sasha in the PM but that would be a great choice too.

Woodland, I live in the Eastbay. I have a fairly inexpensive classic Kenwood piece in mint condition(last time I checked). I've had it stored for at least 10 years. I'd trade you for a cable or something.

I've got a DBX 3BXIII and a DBX 4BX Dynamic Range Expander in storage.
If they might help you, email or pm me.
