Looking for advice on equalizers

Try a Lyngdorf RP1 or a MEN 220 when it will be available.
Not really unexpensive but more suited to the quality of your set-up.
You should be surprised with the results

Thanks. The MEN220 is already on my wish list. That should be a very nice addition to the McIntosh product line.

I like the vintage Soundcraftsmen Equalizers. Very clean, very reliable and they do the job well. I have 4 of them for my 4 systems, plus one spare.

Dan...kind of like a spare tire. I have two RP2215-R's, and two RP2212's. I saw an RP2204 cheap on eBay so I snagged it as a spare. It's like the 2212's but without the test lights for the zero gain controls. I just thought it wouldn't hurt to have a spare, in the unlikely event I should have a problem with my units in use. And the likelihood of a problem is indeed low. In my 33+ years experience with these Eq's, I've had only one repair incident. The spare unit has been gathering dust for years.

Don't worry about using a range expander, they just make quiet things quieter and loud things louder.

I do, however, use a dbx 1231 and I am pretty happy with it. It's been in my system for about 9 years now and has been in flawless service. I will also say that it is one of the QUIETEST eq's I've ever heard.

The 1231 is mostly meant for live venues which comes to it's only downfall. There are no RCA connections for this baby. Only TRS, XLR and barrier strip. I had Kimber Kable make me up two sets of Hero's in RCA to XLR (male and female) to run to the Mac C46.

The next model up has the limiters which I didn't really have a need for.

Here's an interesting story about my 1231. Now we've all heard Pink Floyd's album "Dark Side of the Moon" and we've all heard the cash register sounds at the beginning of the song "Money". The man who made those sounds of that auguably most recognised piece if music owns a pro-audio business here where I live. Yes, I bought the EQ from him. Ian C. Budd owns ICB Audio.
