Chaps, those that know the Ref5SE well and have tried or upgraded to Ref6, and with the understanding from many forum member contributions that the 6 is much better, would those Sonic improvements be substantial enough to justify paying an extra 4-5k for what a Ref5SE ex demo would cost? In my case, I would be upgrading from Ref3, will probably have the chance to audition the 5SE, but not the Ref6. Many thanks!

Depends on the rest of your system, perhaps those 4-5K is better spent somewhere else.

For me, the Ref5se was exceptional, but the Ref 6 is magic.
Along with what have already been said sofar.

Tks Superfrg. I have Ref3, ARC vt100mkIII, Dac8, and B&W803D. In another forum, I asked what was the best upgrade bang for money, and out of 10 answers, 5 were to go for the amp, 4 for the preamp, and 1 for the speakers. I tried GSi75 at home, and did not get a wow or substantial improvement, leading me to consider Ref upgrade path for a relevant change. Maybe the speakers are the issue, may try WA Sabrinas, but I like the looks of BW803D!
Thanks for your input.

A little question. If you play music at level 20 for example on ref6. Does it play louder than with ref5se?

Many thanks for the precision.

Yes. I used to listen around 40 on the ref5se. Now, with the ref6, I'm 28-32.

Do you have any acoustic treaments?

I dont have a dedicated room, but have to share the living room with the rest of my Family.
Still, I managed to get some basic GIK products (4 x bass traps for corners + rear wall treatment, since im pretty close) and it has been the best upgrade for me by far soundwise, even though it only is a few % of my total system value.

I would do anything I could to treat my room before thinking about any gear upgrades, but thats just me.

WAs in shock at how good the ref 6 sounded this weekend at Audio Connection. Richard Vandersteen, Dave Gordon and Garth and Steve from Audioquest were there demoing. It was Vandersteen 7mk2 (best I've ever heard them) with Richards new amps and the ARC ref 6. Garth ran it with and without the Niagara 7000 (KILLER and worth it). We listened to both vinyl and digital on the ARC TOL DAC.

It's the best I've heard the system sound and possibly the best audio I've heard. Richards amps are very special, but that ref 6 took it to a new level. we just all listened to music and heard close to a live performance by Muddy Waters.
