Dynaudio 140 break in going okay thus far!

Thanks for the advice, guys. I would have panicked a tad, for sure. At first they didn't sound at all as good as my old Spica Angelus. Nicer looking, that's for sure. Now, about only 40 hours into the break in and they are starting to.... loosen up? More expansive?

I tell you one thing, this morning I was sitting at the dining room table reading some articles when suddenly I understood I was hearing some very good music, so went into the living room and turned it up a little, sat down and heard Krall's Devil May Care from her Live in Paris album like I'd not heard it before. I haven't even gotten the 140's on stands yet (on order), and they're not placed correctly in the room, but still I was amazed at the depth of the sound stage, the fullness of the sound, and how easy the listening was. I played the track 3 times, finding more and more in the music each time.

I'm beginning to get excited about what's coming next. The source was nothing special, just an old iPod, with the album ripped on a high setting, but certainly not what can be done today with something like the W4S DAC and lossless. It's being driven by my old B&K 507, which isn't bad, but I wonder what the newer integrated systems would add.

But, most important of all, Melinda loves their looks and wanted me to keep Diana turned up! I told her that everything will sound even better once they're on stands and properly placed in the room. She wanted to know if I'd ordered the stands yet and when they'd arrive. I've been pinching myself since.

although I believe in speaker break in, and know that it is also measurable (woofer will lower their free air resonance - you can measure raw drivers before and after and see the difference), it always makes me a little un easy assigning numbers of hours to it - beyond at least 50 or so. Every day we wake up, we're a little different, the ac power can be differnet, and how much can we realy remember th sound - especialy when we talk about 500 or 600 hour break ins. Let alone - who can really believe they can track 600 hours and remeber what the sound was like 200 hours ago? 600 hours is 25 days - 24 hours a day.
Don't get me wrong, I know it exists, I have heard it and measured it - but I think we overestimate our ability to track the time and the perception of changes, beyond the first 50 hours or so.

That is my experience as well.

Figured as much. Or, they just continue to sound better ... or else!
