Who has gone from x250.5 > xa60.5?
Hi everyone
I bought an x250.5 back in April to power my Von Schweikert Unifield 3 speakers. I love the amp, but naturally the .8 amps have me curious. I'm considering possibly moving to the xa60.8, but I'm curious if anyone moved to from the x250.5 to the xa60.5 and can share some experiences that way. I know no one has experience with the xa60.8 yet, so I figure this can give me a good idea. Or I may just stick with x line and move to the x250.8. (I listen to a wide variety of music...jazz, classic rock, current rock and roll music, southern rock, "jam" bands, singer/songwriters, indie, funk, etc. I also listen to a lot of live concert recordings) Thanks! If you listen on the louder side I would stick with the X.8 250.
If you listen at more moderate levels, go for the XA60.5 |

Check out the recent Pass Labs XA60.5 review on Stereophile by its editor, John Atkinson. That might give you some data points.

I heard both in comparaison with a ref5 and speakers were Sasha. XA60.5 can play as loud as a x250.5, the medium is wonderful and treble is more clearer than X250.5.
About the bass, I would say the XA60.5 a little bit more articulate. Do not forget, they drove a Sasha. For me this XA60.5 is a jewel, as all XA.5 serie. I am very curious with the .8 ... |

XA all the way unless you need crazy amounts of power or listen very loud. I run 30w of Class-A and it easily plays as loud as I need with very inefficient Vandersteen's. Even with the McIntosh 452 I never used more than 0.45-4.5w.
Also, don't discount the power draw and heat emitted by Class A. The 30w stereo gets pretty damn warm and for a lot of listening I'd probably never want to go above the 60s or the 100s unless you live somewhere very cold and just want to use them as heaters. 60 monos would be incredible! |
