I run mine a lot in the winter. Makes the room they are in very comfy! But I'm only at 45 degrees North latitude. Volks is at 51 degrees North. He sure doesn't need AC, he may have to biamp with two pairs of 2301's to get the full benefit!

Alberto,
Sorry it took me awhile to respond. I've been knocking around in the Southwest withno internet.

I have a MAC 4300, so I could do what you have done with the C34V. It will be several weeks before I can try it, as all the equipment is not in the same place. It will tell me if the approach with an outboard EQ will work for me. Thanks for the suggestion.
Regards,
Tom

Let me know how that works. I've also seriously considered a Manley Massive Passive in the past ... if it was more affordable or if there was a way to try it in my system before buying it, I would have done so. I sounds like the ideal "delicious" tone control.

Alberto

PS After years of saying how I could not live without tone controls, however, I have finally found an amp that makes me 99% of my records sounds good to great without any tone controls. The Shindo Cortese SET is that amp for me. I don't quite know how it does it, but the way it "massages" the treble and adds body to the lower octaves makes every recording sound just right. I was also "addicted" to the use of loudness for low-level listening and I feel no need for it with the Cortese.

The answer is not one ioda. I may change sources, speakers, cables, etc., but the amps are here to stay forever (yes, I mean that too).

Bob are you one of the few who has traded his MC2301s for something else?

I keep going back and forth on which Mac Monos I want. 1.25KW or 2301s for my 800 D3s. Yes I am bringing this awesome thread back from the dead 7 years later

Bob is taking a break from social media, so I will chime in and tell you that he did switch to d'agostino progression preamp and monos recently. I would not presume to tell you why he decided to make the move, but I know he is happy with his new gear.

Hi. Not at 2301 owner but have similarly powered tube gear.

I know it is obvious, but a couple extra k every 1-2 years can add up. And I’ve have a couple of tube failures and it is just a painfully complication that goes with the territory.

Also they draw a lot of power. So yes the room gets hot and the AC wants to run more creating a trade off in heat vs background noise.

But also you have to think more about power. My system converts about 1000w into heat while idle. So when you think about headroom in your circuits or power conditioning (esp regeneration) there is less or you need bigger gear.

It has tubes and power tubes need to be replaced every 2-3 years. That's about it
