Seriously though, the 402 drove the Cornwalls and was never pushed very hard!!!!
I don't know how you guys use all that power. I just finished listening to Dire Straits at a fairly loud level average 80-83 with peaks around 94 and my 1.2k's never showed hitting 12 watts.

Above 85db you should wear headphones to prevent hearing damage.
A large Orchestra is about 98dB and the front row of a rock concert about 110db. (averages)

Staying the course is its own form of innovation, I suppose.
I am wondering why Mcintosh doesn't have this on their website? I only see 2 reviews there; one for the 501's and one for the MC2KW...I know there has been more than 2 good reviews on their amps in the last several years

Why do you have all that power? :confused-1:

They control my speakers better than the 501's did and the MBL amps would even take up more space than the 1.2ks.

My Porsche Turbo would do over 150 and I didn't use all of that power either. (Kind of close once)

I hadn't check my wattage on meters vs. db level lately so I thought I would do it again:\

At my sitting distance with db meter showing 85db; my single 7300 in stereo shows constant 30 watts per channel. At about 1m away from a single speaker this rises slightly to 86db.

For me to read 90db my meters are bouncing on 60 watts/channel. 30 seconds of this and my head is telling me to take a break for a while...

Efficiency for Magneplanar 3.6R's is 85dB/500Hz /2.83v

I love mine too. It would even look better with a pair of Ivan's handles. Some day I'll get a set. My son already destroyed the spider in one of my Spica TC 50's. Thankfully I was able to find a person to repair it. I don't push them any higher than 40 watts with the MC402.

mgard,

I love my 402 and you are right Ivans handles would look great. The big amp starts to sound good at 40 watts and above.
