Default MC402 Gets Another Nod From Absolute Sound

Paul Seydor gave the 402 another Golden Ear Award in the June/July issue of TAS. He first gave it one back when he reviewed it in 2004 (in a really well-written piece) and he says he is giving another award five years later principally because, even unchanged since then, it still beats most of what else is out there. He says he still owns the review sample he bought back then.

Staying the course is its own form of innovation, I suppose.

Default MC402 is a winner

Glad to hear another Golden Ear nod from Mr. Seydor 5 yrs after the intial TAS review. This speaks volumes for the quality of McIntosh amplification. I am certain Mr Seydor has been exposed to a multitude of amps over the past five years, and look which one he still owns! McIntosh! The 402 really does everything you could want an amp to do...effortless power, vanishingly low distortion, and neutral neutral neutral. And it only occupies a single rack space. Glad to see the fine C2300 given recognition as well, i didnt know TAS had reviewed the 2300.

But for the first 400 watts, does it sound like 501s as McIntosh claims?
