David.......What, no sense of humor from our beloved forum skeptic today?

That wasn't a nasty comment, but just for comparison I can develop one if you'd like.

Whether you should change your MCD500 for a C50, in my mind depends on how often you actually used your MCD500 and how much you enjoy the music that comes from it.

If even occasional listening brings you to nirvana, then keep the MCD500 and get a new preamp.

However, if you find yourself wondering if you are truly benefitting from the investment of your MCD500, then you might want to consider selling it and investing your money in a component that will provide you with greater joy and utility.

I'm in a similar situation. While I do like my MCD500, I am finding that I am rarely using it. Most of my listening is through the Sonos. So I am seriously consider, selling my MCD500 and C45 and buying a new C48. If the DACs in the C48 are as good as the MCD500 and assuming that the C48 will sound better then my C45, then for me this might be a better return on the dollar.

David.......I am not trying to make you feel bad. I am sorry you took my comment in that vain. I will refrain from commenting with anything but facts in the future. Here's a fact. You are an admitted skeptic. So, where did I miss the point? I was just trying to having some fun.

Thanks for your thoughts . I listen to my cd's recorded lossless in iTunes played wireless via my sonos or play rhapsody most of the time . I do not think we are alone in this thinking which is why the C48 and C 50 were made in the first place.

David,

I think that this moves makes A LOT of sense for you.

You still have your wireless digital music with a newer high quality DAC.

You get a high quality phono stage and you can concentrate on your vinyl.

You will get the special quality that a good pre amp brings to your system.

Remember... many consider the Pre amp to be the HEART of the music.

I would love to compare a C2300/MCD500 to a C50/computer hard drive
I'll probably end Dan's torture and order one .

David, if that's what you find listening to most, it makes sense. You'll also benefit from the newer DACs and gain a decent phono stage to boot which will get you back into vinyl.

Warning: Max Voltage Output of Nagra PL-L is 1.0V (Unbalanced/Balanced) and Sensitivity Input of McIntosh MC501 are 2.1V (Unbalanced) and 4.2V (Balanced).
