Listen to a combination of SACDs (which sound great) and regular CDs.

Never occurred to me that the filter/upsampling settings do not apply to SACD playback. Have not played around with the options enough yet to notice.

Go figure.

Matt,
I figured it out pretty quickly because I had a Krell SACD Standard mk iii that had four filters. Two of them applied to redbook CDs and all four to SACDs.

When I tried the filters on the K-03 while playing SACDs I did not notice any changes at all and got suspicious. Dan confirmed what I had observed. I am surprised that nobody had mentioned it before or maybe I missed it.

Amplifier: Pass Labs X250.5, Preamp: Audio Research LS5 Mk II, Sources: Esoteric K-03 & Oppo BDP-95, Speakers: Magnepan 20.7, Interconnects: Kimber Kable
Hallo Carlos A.,

I see you use a Pass x250.5 with a Aresearch LS5MkII with the K03

Begore the AR LS5MkII never had a pass preampli? the K03 is for you really a "killer" player? vs. the K01 make sense safe the $$$ (and go with the K03)?

The Oppo is used for movie and so like that or what?

the Kimber cables are Ks serie? pre to K03? copper or silver?
I use a speakers monocle xl (B&W802di) and pre pass xp20 with the X250.5.
ks1111.
the silver kimber (ks1121 or 1130) dont give a too much analitic sound?

thank you in advance Style

No kidding!

I am still in break-in mode, and other than really enjoying what I am hearing, I am not critically comparing settings yet.

I also have just a small selection of SACD's, so may not have noticed this "undocumented feature" for some time...

Cheers

Matt

Matt - How's your K-03 coming along? I must have about 200 hrs of burn-in in mine.

Really enjoying it.

I figure, other than a few initial overnight sessions with the break-in CD, I am getting about 4-5 hours a day of listening. I just checked, and was floored I have only had the unit 5 weeks and 2 days. It seems much longer! Time flies when...

At this rate, I am also at about 200 hours. Sounds really good to me. Very interested to see how things unfold over the next few months.

Cheers!

Matt

I continue my quest to break-in the K-03. I am also beginning to think that each combination of upsampling or not and filtering or not needs its own break-in period. If that is true, it is going to be a slow slog. I believe Dan and others have hinted that it could be the case.

I see that Marc Mickelson has just posted his review of the Esoteric K-01 in The Audio Beat. He along with Roy Gregory are noting that their main combo of settings are FIR1 filter along with ORG or zero sampling.

In any case, the sound is getting there. It is beginning to make me smile.
