Lightbulb Why didn't anyone tell me?

Why didn't anyone tell me how slick, and amazing the Aerial SW12 subs are?

I finally got around to powering up my new pair of SW12's today. Frankly, for years I have been using JL Audio subs exclusively. I will of course not be replacing any of them either.

When it came to building my Esoteric/Aerial system, I was really on the fence whether to get the subs or not. I finally said what the heck I'll get them, even though they were on the expensive side. Keep in mind I was trying to design a system with some kind of budget in mind; really!

I previously posted the pics of the Aerial SW12's in my Esoteric thread. They look fantastic, and weigh more than the JL counterpart.

Well, about an hour ago I cabled them up, as stereo subs being fed by a WW XLR each. They are each on dedicated lines; the back of each sub has a plethora of adjustments via switches, and knobs. There is no ARO automatic room optimization that JL fans are accustomed to.

I preset all of the controls where I felt would be a good starting point. One super cool/practical feature is that each sub comes with it's own remote; of course I only need one, just aim at the sub desired and make the changes you want right from your listening position.

I started playing some Jackson Brown - Very Best Of (Re-mastered) Holy Cow the subs were amazing! How could this be, I haven't dialed anything in or tweaked any settings.

I grabbed the all metal remote, among many things it offers mute (turns the input to the sub off) great for a before & after A/B test. It can turn the visual display of the sub on, yes each one has it. Most importantly you can adjust the main gain, eq on/off and much more!

I listened for the better part of 30 minutes simply stunned. I lucked out when I bought these for sure; I'll be writing much more about these once they are positioned properly, dialed in, and spiked.

As I said earlier, I still love all of my JL subs; but I have a new found affection for the Aerial SW12's.

Ivan.......I expected a positive report on the Aerial SW12 subwoofers. After reading the information and specifications on Aerial's website, I knew these subs would be special. Even the steel bases are sand filled from the factory. Looking forward to a more detail report as you dial them into the room and get some hours on them.

I read through the manual, 50-100 hours is the recommended break-in.

Slip this into CD drawer, hit the repeat button and move out of the house for a week.

Ivan,

Not sure I totally agree with the title of the thread as I know I suggested that the SW12 should not be left out of this superb package that you have gathered. But maybe I should have bragged on these subs more than I did when we talked.

The SW12 has gotten some great reviews when it came out and made it's mark among some of the audiophile magazines reviews as one, if not the best sub on the market during it's initial tenure. Of course that is awhile back and being that Aerial is a small company I think they have gone under the radar for many.

The SW12 is a very musical sub and does a great job with two channel listening. And it more then holds it's own with an action scene in the HT. An audiophile who came to hear my set up made a comment that the bass integration into the sound track was simply amazing!

It makes me very happy to hear that you are so taken by them and they are not even dialed in yet to the room or your set up. Let's face it your short review here carries a lot of weight, and it is nice to see another happy Aerial owner.

I will be standing by for the official review from you when it comes out!

A Huge Congrats on your new Aerial SW12 Subs!

Great to hear they are good. I am also a huge fan of the JL Audio subs. But the next subs I get are going to include remote control so I can do most of the tuning from my seat. guess I'm getting lazy.
