I kind of like it but I don't understand why they keep adding items with non matching buttons. The MXA80 and the MHA150 have buttons which match mainline Mcintosh components and then they make this, the MB50 and the MP100 with non matching buttons when there clearly is room for the older style button.

For another $1000 you can have the MCT450. Why would you buy this cut down version?

My reason would be to save space. The furniture in my listening room consists of a mix of antique and contemporary mission pieces which are as important to me as my audio system. Currently, I'm using an antique Stickley secretary to set my preamp, tuner, and DAC on and space is limited. Actually, I really wish they made the MCT450 the same size as a D150. The slim line components look better to me when stacked on an open shelf or tabletop.

I'm with Pete. Sticking with MCD and MDA 1000 for good. The late 1980's micro size products don't scream quality (or future resale value) to me.

I am sure it is a very good unit, but how can something 11-1/2"W x 5-7/8"H x 19"D be called "COMPACT"? Come on 19 inches deep?? That needs a full sized table to sit it on. Many full sized power amps are 19 inches deep.

The MCT450 is 17.5W x 6H x 19"D.

But, the little MCT80 can directly play FLAC files. Is that not a good thing?

MCT450:
"SACD, Hybrid SACD, CD, CD-R/RW (MP3 and WMA)"

MCT80:
"SACD, Hybrid SACD, CD, CD-R/RW (MP3 and WMA), user generated DVD or CD Data Discs (with music file formats including DSD (up to DSD128), WAV (up to 24-bit/192kHz), FLAC, MP3 and others)"
