Mikeylee, glad you a set up that you and your family feels happy with. I would have guessed that the outcome would have been exactly as it unfolded. To me, the Mac and the Rockport are both excellent brands on their own. But to my ears they are both on the warm rich side. And having both of them in the same system might not be the perfect match if you are looking for a more neutral presentation.

Bigblue,
I agree with you. My wife and I enjoyed the sound of the Mac and Rockport Atria together, but that was before we heard a much better to us synergy with the not so warm Simaudio/Moon.

Like to know your reasons for going for the 700i after a home trial of the 600i.

John49,
Good question. My dealer had a 600i and not a 700i in stock to loan us. Since we were told both have the same sonic signature but with the 700i taking the bass slam, clearness in the highs, quietness, and soundstage just a little farther, we agreed to demo the 600i. The differences my dealer and the Simaudio exec told me were consistent with what I have read in reviews. Since this is going to be my last amp upgrade in quite a few years, we went with the slightly better and more powerful 700i.

Mikeylee,

Thanks for that. It is true that the sonic signature is very similar, so if you liked the 600i, you should also like the 700i. One thing to remember is that the loaner 600i probably was well broken-in. Your new 700i will need some time on it to sound at least as good, before sounding even better! I found that mine would not sound too good sometimes in the first few months and it had me wondering what was wrong. A few more hours use and it sounded good again and improved further until it now seems to be settled.

Enjoy!

John49,
Thanks for the advice. Yes, I had seen the 600i move in and out of systems around the store so I am sure it was quite broken in. I will remember to be patient for far more than a few days until the unit really really broken in. I like your wording of until it settles.

Yes........... think you've made a wise choice in moving to the 700i.

Mike,
Try the Moon and see and hear for yourself. I am considering a similar switch from Mac separates, C2200 and MC2102 to the 700i. I auditioned a Moon Neo ACE recently and found the sound very engaging. More detailed and better imaging. At 50 WPC the Neo ACE just didn't have enough power for my Legacy Focus SE speakers but I was very satisfied with the sound. Have fun with the process!
