I do know of a Vandersteen/ARC dealer who says that it drives the Vandy's very well. You might try calling Vandersteen?

I am going to call my dealer today and see what he says. He is the biggest Vandy/ARC dealer in North Jersey.

Driving ref250s today. And as one might expect, consider it a great pairing. I've never used the electronics to drive Vandersteens.

I've heard the 5se and ref150 driving both the Quatros and 5a. Both sounded good, but the 5A were a big step up. The 5a listening included some large orchestra passages, and I didn't find the Vandersteens were wanting for power.

There is probably a reason you choose a tube pre. I'd defiantly give the 150 a listen before pulling a trigger on the 450.

Best!

I have a pair of McIntosh 601s driving SF Amati Homage w/ ARC 5SE, CD8, Phono 2SE. I personally think the McIntosh SS amps are much better than ARCs SS amps both sonically and aesthetically. They are a relative bargain compared to the ARC tube amps and are extremely robust. For your purpose the 250s would be the best choice to remain all ARC, beyond that there are a plethora of suitable amps. Avoid under powering your speakers as a general rule. You really should audition any amp in your system before writing a check.

Those 601s are beautiful and I am sure they sound as nice as they look.

I've heard many say great things about ARC Pre and Lamms marriages.
