I don't indulge myself, never really cared for it but know for a fact that this "tweak" sounds much better than any cable upgrade.

Great post!

Serge - that stuff just makes me hungry. Haven't 'indulged' since 20yr before the end of the last century (been a while). No problem with, but just not 'my cuppa tea'. Give me a good red or the excellent Gewurztraminer we had with lunch (baked Icelandic cod, fresh spinach & seasoned rice ).

Oakland California, just across the bay, has decriminalized psychedelic plants. Listening to music on them, sounds like a better placebo than any audio cable.

Assuming this is a serious thread with some injected humor regarding plants, I have always felt that speakers make the most difference. Next amps/preamp, sources, and finally cables. I kept my MIT Z-Systems (Stabilizers, Z-Center, ISO Duo, Z-Cords) for 25 years and my Kimber Kable Copper Select cables, interconnects, and Palladian PK10 power cord for about 15 years for this reason. I believe that a fine quality copper cable/power cord made by Shunyata or Kimber for example will provide most on this website with the quality they need to get 98% out of their systems. I believe cables are the least important provided they are well made by a competent manufacturer. However, if you are going to own extremely expensive equipment it makes sense to me to upgrade to cables, interconnects, power conditioners, and power cords of commensurate quality, of your choice and taste of course. What I don't agree with is a position that holds that a particular cable is way superior to all others. For example, I am sure the Shunyata Sigma USB cable is a very very fine cable, certainly the best USB at present. But does it represent some major breakthrough that will transform my stereo system over my AQ Diamond or a comparable Wire World? Nope and it would be totally out of place in my all AQ system. Finally, there is I believe such a thing as "cable envy" as manifested by folks that steadfastly maintain that a "20 dollar" cable is all you need. Seriously, I think if you believe that you should at least get fine quality copper cabling (made by Shunyata for example), power cords, interconnects, conditioners, etc and let that be that. You will get no argument from me that your are not receiving 98-99% of the best out of your system. I actually agree there is little point in spending 100 grand on cabling. Having said that I totally enjoy all my AQ and would do it again in an instant.

It's not about hearing, it's about measuring. Tell me: how can someone hear something that isn't there? I really don't get it.

What is not there? How do you know the difference is not there? How do you measure 'sound' traveling thru a piece of equipment or wire? You can measure various components that in the end result in a transducer making sound, but you cannot actually measure the sound as it interacts our ears/brains, which are all different. At least no one has implanted electrodes into the brains of any listeners to test gear that I'm aware of (though it would be great if we could convince several of the various 'well-known' reviewers to do so ).

You also don’t have to be able to measure something for it to exist

A classic example about measurements and audibility goes back to the 70's, when electronics manufacturers were in a very competitive race to lower the measured Total Harmonic Distortion (THD) in their amplifiers. They found that by adding feedback to the circuit they could significantly lower the measured THD so they employed more and more of it in order for their specs to be best. Critical listeners then complained that even though these amps had great measured specs they often sounded worse than the older models which had higher levels of THD. It was then later discovered that using so much feedback to lower THD resulted in much higher levels of Transient Intermodulation Distortion (TIM) which was previously not a known entity nor being measured. So it's often now understood in engineering circles that if we can hear a difference in audio gear but can't measure that difference then we're likely measuring the wrong thing or don't even know what measurement represents a specific aspect of sound that we're able to hear.
