Default Recent experiences with The Upgrade Company?

Hi folks. I know there are a few older threads on this guy, but does anyone have anything new to add? I noticed they have a LARGE amount of McIntosh inventory on their website. Are they an authorized dealer , or are these items that were bought back from unsatisfied customers using the buy-back guarentee? Thanks!

All of the McIntosh products state "BRAND NEW "A" Stock", so are not 'buy-backs'. I don't imagine he would jeopardize the BBB rating by misrepresenting this. It says if they do get a returned unit, these are put up for sale as 'returned', at a discount. I didn't see any described that way ...

I would think they are NOT an 'authorized dealer' but they do warranty their products for the length of the manufacturer's warranty (PLUS 5 years? on the mods, I'm not sure ...).

Of course, one has to 'have faith' that he will still be around in 3-8 years if a problem comes up, but I think he's been around for quite a while.

I don't know anything about this other that what I see on the web page, but would consider purchasing from him ... assuming I had the scratch ...

There's probably no FACTORY warranty. Those prices sure look like MSRP. I would probably get it from a dealer.

Anyone have any advice on a recently acquired MC2255 regarding upgrades? Physically I'm blown away by it's condition. There is one small scratch on top of one of the heatsinks in the rear of the unit, but that's it. Upon receipt earlier this week, I took it to my local audiophile repair shop just to have it cleaned internally, check the solder connections. etc., but I've read a couple of times that some people have the capacitor's upgraded and would appreciate any Mcintosh geek's opinion. Thanks in advance...

Don't buy anything from TUC. I've done a ton of research on this company. He tells the customers to not open up the unit because this will void his warranty. The truth is, he just doesn't want customers to see his sloppy work.

Many times when owners complained about the "upgraded" unit sounded similar, or worse, than the unmodified unit, he would get them to ship the unit back... multiple times. He always has an excuse to make the unit better for a few hundred $$$. I wouldn't bother. Your time is much more valuable.
