Can anybody ID this?

While cleaning the lens on my old Denon, I broke this off one of the boards. Can anyone ID it and point me in the direction of where I can get another? (Other than Akihabara...)

Craig.......That is a 6.144MHz crystal oscillator. NDK is the company that makes that particular one, but there are other manufacturers like TXC, ECS, and others. You should be able to find that part at Digi-Key. Just do a search on the part to find suppliers.

Thanks Dan! This soldering adventure will be much more difficult than the cap I replaced in my TV. Very small! Wish me luck. Digi-key here I come!

Craig.......You may also try Mouser Electronics. Between Digi-Key and Mouser I can usually find any part I need.

Seems that Digi-Key's website does not show any NDK Crystal at this frequency. I found one on the Mouser site from a company called ECS that looks the same and seems the same but I cannot be sure of any other specs besides 6.144 and the size. I have sent Digi-Key an email asking them for help. This unit is about 15 years old and was made in Japan. It was Denon's reference model DVD player back then. It is built like a tank and seems to be lined with copper. If I can't fix, I can probably sell it for that!

If I can't be sure of getting a plug and play part, I cannot proceed. There are probably other options but since I have no idea what this thing does or how it works...Looking for plug and play.

Craig, That is a standard crystal in an HC-49 package. So if you can't find one from NDK, you can sub another manufacturer. You're looking for a 6.144 MHz quartz crystal in an HC-49 package.

I just checked and Newark has a part that should work.

Another option, is there enough of a stub of the lead that you could solder on a wire? That would be your best bet. Tom

I thought of that but one wire broke off up inside the crystal. My soldering technique would no doubt end up heating the crystal in order to fix that and I assumed that would bad.

I have ordered a replacement from Digi-Key from ECS that looks to have all the same specs as the NDK, and is the right size. They are not expensive so I will give it a go. This is what I ordered. ECS-61-32-1

I checked out the crystal you ordered and it should work fine.

No worries with heat, the terminals can stand a lot of heat, unlike a transistor or IC, so you can solder away without damage. You can even use a Dremel tool remove some of the sealant to expose a little more of the lead.
