Some would say the same thing about big audio systems too.

Does it support DAB/DAB+/DMB?

For me that is the crucial question.

I asked last week to PIA if a DAB+ Accuphase Tuner is in the pipeline and they said "sadly no".

Sadly because in Germany they are about to switch off FM (he told me), and in the next few years also here in Switzerland the FM will be gone.

McIntosh also has no plans to release the DAB/DAB+/DMB tuner.

I think that Norway has moved to DAB/DAB+/DMB. All major radio stations broadcast only DAB/DAB+/DMB in Norway. At least national NRK.

Maybe biggest problem with DAB/DAB+/DMB is, that it's more European thing. I think, that we will see high-end DAB/DAB+/DMB tuners, when Germany and other major European countries move broadcasts to DAB/DAB+/DMB.

Only congress can force a mandatory switch OFF for FM by passing a law. I do believe many stations will simply choose not to broadcast over AM/FM for economic reasons. It costs a ton of money to broadcast, in the 100,000 watts of power range as well as real estate for towers, etc... Revenue needs to keep trickling in. No money, no FM honey.

As radio broadcasting is market driven, the decision should rest there in my view. Not with government.

IMO,analog broadcasting isn't going to go anywhere, anytime soon in the U.S.,unless someone can tell me what the plan is for tens of millions of car radios to get retrofitted for digital.
