At <60k, you gotta wonder about build quality. My C7 wasn't put together all that well compared to my 911. Might be worth buying on the East coast and driving back to the West coast to see if I like it. If not, I can always sell it.

I'd be very surprised by that. I don't think the C8 is competition for the typicial 911 buyer. Maybe for the Cayman customer willing to trade some comfort for performance.

We still need to see what you get for $60k. I would be very surprised about the interior and the engine at that price point.

The GT4 is a much better value proposition that the C8 despite being more expensive. I really don't see how you would pick a C8 over a GT4 and they are really two different cars.

You guys are missing the point, 60k is 'base', like 58k is base for a 718 Porsche, ever see one 'sticker' out for that ? of course not.

As for the 'motor' concern ????? Nobody makes a better pushrod mother than Chevy. The interior, I haven't seen it in person but I suspect like the preceding generations it will be and improvement over what came before it. Will it compare 'evenly' to Porsche / Ferrari , of course not but they don't come close when it comes to performance for the $$ either.

Simply put, in the mid 70k range you will get a nicely option C8. As I asked before what does that buy you in a 718 ?

I agree with you. No Porsche buyer expects to have anything in the 70k range. So for me the C8 is not a competition to Porsche much less for other exotics.

The GT4 will be a $110k+ car and that's if you can get an allocation. So they are clearly not targeting the same customer.

My comments for the engine was that for that price you'll get the base engine and I don't what kind of numbers you can expect out of that. I didn't say anything about reliability or quality of the engine. The marketing has been quite vague about the performance and at what price level you can get it.

LOL, depends on what the word 'competition' means to you ! Can Porsche make a car that competes with the Vette performance wise at it's price point, probably but they choose not to. Fact is a stage 2 tricked out VW Golf 'R' will run circles around any similarly priced 718.

according to my friends dealer (Clarence, NY) he will getting into one for 105k, no allocation issues

it's the ONLY engine available for the initial offering. As for specs being vague, nonsense, one only needs to look !

I'm not too surprised.

I own a 911 and my wife was the one who after first seeing the C8 convertible pictures told me we should get rid of the 911 cabriolet and get a C8.

Zr1's have always stretched to be compared with the 911 Turbo, but the common thinking was the 'Vette is much less civilized and not as refined.

This car seems different. Looks pretty refined to me (at least much more so than the previous generations). Mid-engine ought to offer a completely different driver experience, finally capable of putting power down to the wheels in a way the front engine rear drive never could. Rumors of an AWD variant could even make more waves-

I'm not ready to make the leap from my 911 to a C8 as I'm a "4-seater" guy, but comparing the 718 to the C8 makes even more sense.

If I didn't want 4 seats, and was looking for a two seater, roadster mid or rear engine car, it would be very hard not to take a hard look at the C8.
