Not surprised...when Japanese mfrs do something well...they generally do it really well.

Mine would be this emi meter which allowed me to find and eliminate power line noise and find which devices quiet line noise and which don't. My best discovery has to be identifying which 120 leg was quieter. There is a big difference between the 2 legs on my home's power and I had been unknowingly using the noisy one

Going back on all my purchases, it's really hard to beat my SOTA Star / Nova turntable (started as a Star III, later updated to Nova V) and the Fidelity Research FR64fx tonearm I run on it. The SOTA competes sonically with much more expensive turntables (like for example, my Clearaudio Master Innovation), and properly addresses 2 of the largest problems with high-end vinyl setups - isolation (through its built-in suspension) and record warps (vacuum hold down). It definitely won't hold back top-tier cartridges from their best performance. I.e. you can buy a much more expensive cartridge than this table and not be compromising. Same with the FR arm - these can be found for $1400 used, and sonically it smokes both my Graham Phantom II Supreme and Clearaudio Universal 12" arms.
Honorable Mentions: Sennheiser HD650 these headphones from a good balanced amp and my SOTA source, can yield goosebump-inducing sound for a LOT LESS $ than my main system. The Sonic Frontiers Phono 1 SE+ phono stage and Shelter Accord cartridge round out this system, and are also amazing values. I'm in love with my Tannoy Canterbury GR speakers, VAC Renaissance phono stage, Koetsu Blue Lace cartridge, and Stax SR-009 / T2 headphone setup - but given their respective costs there's no way I can slap the "value" label on 'em! SOTA pictured with Orotofon Cadenza Bronze, which is not as good as the Shelter Accord on there now: Last edited by mulveling; 10-18-2019 at 12:33 PM. |

Dust covers from radio dust covers. Super cheap, last forever and one doesn’t realize how useful until you get them.

Best thing since sliced bread. Radio Dust Covers are essential especially if you run tube equipment. He’s also super fast to ship. Many times the same day.

Thanks, Richard, I'll have to check him out. Maybe he has something that would work as a dust cover for my Michell TT.
