I am in a similar boat. I just don’t know if I want to go through the hassle of replacing my wel nrg.

I have accumulated four of them.

I think I would have to go dragon if I wanted to have some improvement that was worth the change.

If you contact Audioquest they will tell you the Hurricane surpasses Wel's NRG. At least that what they told me. I wouldn't take their word though, I would have to compare the two with my own ears.

Yeah that's what they say... but I have to hear it for myself. I'm happy with my WELs. No desire to move on for the hassle and the cost.

Go DRAGON, Joey. C'mon, just try one

I wonder what Audioquest would say about NRG WEL vs. Tornado...is that around the crossover point of performance for the old series, or is it much closer to the Hurricane side of things? I've heard with my own ears that the metal quality really does matter a lot, at least with the PSS silver vs. coppers. I'm not as certain that the nuances between coppers (LGC, PSC, PSC+) matters as much. What the Hurricane vs. NRG 1000 shows is that geometry and/or gauge matters a heck of a lot too (both being PSC+ copper).

I really don't want to drop another 2.5K+ for a couple more cords, but if I get Tornados I'll always be wondering if I should have done Hurricanes. Space is going to get TIGHT behind my Niagara 7000, whichever way I go there.

"but if I get Tornados I'll always be wondering if I should have done Hurricanes". That's exactly why I purchased three Hurricanes...I didn't want to always be wondering. I did purchase a Tornado to go on my music server, but I'll order my fourth Hurricane for my preamp. So Hurricane's on my amp, power conditioner, preamp, and DAC.

Dang Ricjor1 - nice!!! Peer pressure is sure to kick in here now. Itching to order those 2x Hurricanes...

I'll probably get one of my 20A NRG WEL's reterminated to 15A for use on my phono stage. Even if it costs $500 to reterm, it's still a great power cord, and that's cheaper than buying a 4th Hurricane. The other 20A WEL is on my Ref 6 preamp, and I think that'll be just fine for a good while. Maybe I'll pick up a Dragon next year; not sure if it would be best to place that on conditioner, preamp, or phono stage. It'll be nice when the Dragons hit the used market at good discounts, but that's probably a long time away.

And I need to get an AQ power socket installed in the wall. I live above a commercial business and don't have access to the breakers, so I'll have to ask for a favor. The stock socket is begging for mercy against that Hurricane.

I've sold my NRG-WEL and my NRG-1000 cables since January... taking a leap of faith and... intuition. I'm gonna settle on Hurricanes and I'll be leaving a NRG-10 in my system as well. Waiting anxiously for a.... class 6 Hurricane that seems to be awfully late.

Crap, I remember waiting at least 4 or 5 weeks for my 'cane, end of last year. I was hoping they'd have production humming by now. And my dealer's WEL Signature ICs have been on order since mid-December (he's getting a new pair for his in-home system, and then I'll get his old WEL). Tired of waiting...

I have half a mind just to get a pair of Tornados for now. I can always repurpose them to the headphone rig if/when I upgrade. Having those NRG 1000s feeding my amps is bugging me, now.

johndoe21ro - wow, that will be a sight to see, 6 'canes in your rig. I couldn't even fit that without moving stuff around. Please post pics when they're in!
