Hi Guys,

I'm about to upgrade my Electrocompaniet pre- and power amp to a Pass Labs X350 (not the .5) and X2.5

Would this be a good move? Has any body here heard the GM's on a Pass amp and would this work?
I'm going to buy them blind (it's a used set, not possible to audition on my own speakers)

I've learnt that the Pass sound is totally different from Electrocompaniet (neutral vs warm) but I guess that would be OK for me, time for a change

Just was curious about the combination Pass - SF

Thanks in advance for any feedback!!

A video of my set up. Such poor quality that I think I'll have to try again!

Just saw this after all these months I can't see why the F112's wouldn't sound good with the the GH

Hi...i just came across this...i remember when i was looking for amps for my SFs and many, many people liked the Pass-SF combination. I found Gryphon-SF to work well (for me)...which i would have thought shared 'some' similarities being Class A SS, etc. I have never heard Pass, so the actual 'voicing' of the equipment is not something i can compare.

What i CAN say is that SF responds well to high current amps...they tend to sound so good with mid-powered tube amps, it is hard to conceive of what would happen with a high-current, high powered SS Class A amp...but what i tend to find is that the speaker is instantly able to delineate musical lines better with greater ease and discipline. The bass remains natural and decays well...but is far more propulsive. This applies to both the SF Guarneri and STrads...both of which i have owned in the past.

hope that helps...good luck. great great speakers.

+1. I ran mine with Velodyne DD18 (in parallel)...and despite having a few obvious flaws because the SF did not quite reach all the way down to create a seamless bridge...i still preferred it given my taste in music. And never looked back until getting Strads...where i also used DD18 in parallel...and continue to do so today with my X1/Grand Slamms (though obviously with the sub shut off way lower...no signal whatsoever from sub above 40hz)

The tweeter and woofer from the GE are from Scanspeak.
GE uses Mundorf, í don't know about the earlyer Guarneri's.
After all of these years, I wanted to make sure the "slight" misinformation about the Guarneri Homage is cleared up. The 'misinformation' was actually started by the very nice review by Ken Kessler and a few other reviewer's who were 'perhaps' given less than 100% information by SF at the time.
Anyhow, the mid/bass driver is a custom unit from Audio Technologie and the tweeter is NOT a modified Dynaudio Esotar. In fact, it is a Dynaudio D-28/2! The factory took the D-28/2 and added the rear wooden diffusor. The myth that the Esotar is the tweeter has been going on for years, however, the factory themselves confirmed for me that the unit is a D-28/2.
