Steve,

As Crion said, that paper was referring the filtering process that Shunyata were using a few generations back. I cannot see any reason why this would hold true for the Zitron technology. Nor for the Furutech cable, which I know quite well.

IIRC, Ruby Hill & Mountain use a very tight coil (rather than weave) to control EMF. That should not be distance sensitive. But I have never used Ruby Hill.

The only time I could imagine a shorter cord being at a disadvantage is if the equipment had a noisy power supply, ie generated some hash on the line. Maybe, depending on the design of the cable, this would be ameliorated over distance?

But I rarely use a cable less than 1.7/8m. I find it too restrictive if I want to swap things around, and the thicker cables often have too much torque on the sockets at short runs.

Can anyone tell me what type of adapter I need to be able to plug a typical 3prong plug from an electric heater into the end of a ztron cobra 15amp cable so that I can facilitate the burn-in? Female (??) to Male (??)

Bob,
Shunyata sells an inexpensive cable adapter specifically for this purpose. Check with your preferred retailer for info...

Thanks Puma, i have a couple Ztron Cobras on the way for my Einstein Phono-pre (balanced version, dual mono), and the phono-amps' power supplies sure are not hungry for current. I was thinking a settled in cable for that application might take a very long time indeed.

Another question... can you connect multiple cords together (using adapters) and connect a single power sucking device (electric heater) to facilitate burning more than one at a time?

Yow. I'm gonna guess Shunyata doesn't recommend that, but I'd contact them to be sure.

I got a quick reply from Grant @ Shunyata... no problem putting cables together for the burn. He says he does it at the factory. Just make sure the adapters are snug.

He also mentioned "Over-driving current during burn-in
does not add any benefit and can have some adverse affects, not permanent, but they still will need some settling time, 1-2 days after being moved to the components for testing."

In my case I'll keep the space heater on low, or dig a fan out of hiding in the shed.

Propeller fan is good on low for at least 50 hours!

Would've never guessed. Thanks for that info. Wish I would've known a year ago. LOL

That's what's nice about Shunyata...they have excellent customer service. When you contact them, they get back to you.
