Vintage Mac Gear As First?

I lost my cherry, er, got exposed to Mac gear, with the MA6200 integrated amp. Made a very nice first high end system with some old KEF Reference 103/3s, a Ymaha tuner and a Technics SLDL-1. And lots of MFSL and CBS Half Speed Masters. I saved every penny I could the last year I was in the service to buy that MA6200. It served me well for about 16 years, never had an issue with it.

If you cut your teeth on vintage Mac, what gear was it?

I bit the bullet and bought a 6200 site unseen of the 'gon

It has been a wild and wonderful ride up the upgrade ladder since then, but I will say, that I could live with a 6200 in my system for a long time.

It gave me my first taste of the wonderful McIntosh sound and I have not looked back.

I bought my first MAC piece in 1983- a new MAC4100 receiver. What a great receiver at the time!

salmtpa.......My original McAttack came in 1968 when I purchased a pair of MC30 mono tube amps. I was bit hard, refused treatment, and never recovered. :icon_arrow:

My very first piece of Mac gear was the MC752 amplifier. I got into it sometime in the late 80's. It sure looked nice sitting on the shelf of the wall unit. After looking at it for a few weeks I thought now what to connect it to. Aw a C504 preamp came next followed by a MR510 tuner. Then a MCD7007 CD player. It just grew from there. I enjoyed it so much that I left my job at Michigan Bell and went to work for Alma's HiFi selling gear. That wasn't as much fun as I thought and I found out that HiFi was very seasonal. You starve in the warmer months. I even quit playing with my gear at home. After about 18 months of selling I had had enough. I got a real job again one that paid enough so that I could afford to buy the Mac I wanted. Live and learn! Cheers, Frank

Hardly considered vintage, my first pieces of Mac were a C39 & MC7106.

My first was a MC30 pair and an MX110 pushing Klipsch Forte II's. Those MC30's sounded like they were pushing 100 watts -- they had brute force. Wish I still had 'em -- but know they would be sitting idle as I don't do well with multiple systems.

How did you go from a simple 2 piece Mcintosh system to today. Was it pretty gradual, were you content for a year at a time ? Did you just keep adding every few months ?
