Well, I am not going to bother sitting through it to find out what he says and the context in which he makes that broad statement. Can you say expand on what he says?

If it ain't true, it makes sub woofer connection better for me because I can use XLR cables.
I cannot see why it is not the preferred connection unless the PSA guy is talking about a specific context.

BTW, I am not blowing off PSA but merely expressing my lack of patience for almost any YouTube presentations. I'd prefer a document or reference from an authority.

I had assumed the SMS-1 was low-passing the full range audio sent to it as well as doing acoustic room correction.
Can't help you there. My memory of the SMS-1 is dim but my report on it is still on the website where I found this: I see an LP filter on that screen.

Thanks, Kal.

I think I'm going to use the SP3 for subwoofer management, the SMS-1 for acoustic room correction. Thus output from the Ayre KX-5/20 goes to the SP3; output from the SP3 is passed through the SMS-1 to the subwoofers, actually two daisy-chained SMS-1s for two Velodyne HGS-10s and two HGS-15s. IIRC, the processing that screen shows can be turned off. I'll use 4th order crossover at 80 Hz. The speakers are KEF Ref 1s with LS50 surrounds.

I had imagined that the crossover slope was adjustable with the SP3, but it doesn't seem to be. Does anyone know what crossover slope the SP3 provides? If it's not 24 dB/octave, I'll use the Velodyne SMS-1 for low-pass.

From Bryston: In almost all cases it's 4th order low-pass, 2nd order high-pass. The high-pass filtering surprised me.

Has anyone had the 4k upgrade for the SP3? If so, what has been the experience since the upgrade?

I did. The “experience” is that I can now connect my AppleTV directly to the SP3 and don’t have to connect it to the Oppo if I want to watch 4K material. In other word, convenience. Other than that, no difference. If I recall correctly, you also lose one HDMI input which does not affect me at all.

Thank you for spelling "Lose" correctly.

Dave/Moonhawk, I just saw pictures of your room and equipment, and if I had a room like that, it would look just like yours. I thought it was tasteful looking and exuded quality. Is it a 5.1 or 7.1 configuration?

Gbaby--

Thanks! Which pics in which thread? I have made major changes since my early pics in the Bryston picture thread, including making and installing paneling, changing speakers, building new platforms for the components, and adding 7b3 mono blocks.

And, I just changed from 5.1 to 7.1, since I freed up two channels on the 9B2 when I added the monoblocks. I bought the Sopra surround BE surround speakers, which are actually two speakers in one, And can be wired separately as side plus rear, or together as side speakers. Space and wiring restraints made it virtually impossible to run separate rears. The sopranos Yes solved the problem nicely.

BTW, did you read what you said?: "If I had a room like that, it would look just like yours." . Yes, it would.
