Here's the Focals with Soulution gear. Can't say I was particularly moved.

The speakers in question...while the speakers were fab, I wouldn't be using the VTL gear if I had 'em.


The new Peachtree Audio Grand Pre preamp...sounded great, but I liked the equivalent integrated better because it was using Sonus Fabers Strads...

A big turntable with an SME arm. Haven't a clue what this TT is...



The Silverline room with the C-J gear. This room is best described as a jumble, with a Kuzma TT, arm and cartridge, and two completely different sets (and types) of electronics driving three completely different speaker models, all utilizing different driver manufacturers. While this room sounded good, it was hard to tell just how good even though the Silverline model we listened to used (older spec) Dynaudio drivers. The Silverline speakers and CD player in this room are built by a one-man operation, and somehow I left with the feeling Silverline is not quite ready for prime-time. The ET5 and LP66S sounded good as far as I could tell, but I would have much preferred to have heard them in the actual Dynaudio room with the C2s. This room from suffered from a confused and unclear strategy as to what was exactly was being presented and why. You can see that even the visual presentation was a jumble and mish-mash of gear.



These Cessaro horns are pretty weird-looking (no, they are very weird-looking) and were driven by an amp I'd never heard of, but sounded quite good and very natural.

Glad you liked it but those were not Strads. They were Elipsa SE's.

Thanks for the correction, Bill. I have to admit I'm not up too well on my SF models/designations. All I can say is they sounded fab, as did the Amatis in the Wadia room.

I first fell in love with SFs when I heard my first pair of Cremona M's!

SE's are pretty cool. They have the Strad tweeter and the crossover redesigned for it. Also the multi-layered lacquer finish stiffens the cabinet over the standard Elipsa. The changes take the speaker to $22900.

Though they aren't Strads, many people have taken to calling them Mini-Strads.

Bill, I thought they were Strads because I didn't know what model they were, but I described their shape to a friend on the phone when talking about them and he said they were Strads.

I really should brush up on my SF models and designations!
