JohnA, I am betting it really grows on you. I had other CDPs that sounded clinically better in a particular category, but for long term and enjoyable MUSICAL listening, I found the VK-D5SE to the best for me. Congrats!!

Thanks mate
Yea, as the tubes in it are brand new, i want to give it some hours before going into great detail on how it sounds.
In the week and a bit, the sound has changed a little so no doubt will continue to do so as i get the hours up on these tubes.

I have ordered some 6h30DR's for it, as locally could only find EH 6H30pi gold pins.

Where did you find the 6H30DR? We're they reasonably priced or astronomical?
Thanks

I tried 6N6P in a VK-32SE, and liked them! Even as a mix of 2 x 6N30H & 2 x 6N6P worked great.

This might not be a good idea. I presume you put a mix in the same channel. The way the tubes are configured, it will mean very different currents for the two tubes in the diff stage - not a desirable thing, plus there will be much more stress on the plate loading resistors working with the 6H30 tube, perhaps even over-stressing them.

Just putting in the 6H6 tubes is fairly safe, but the electrical performance will suffer, and the tubes will most likely run with positive grids - not something recommended.

Of course - the proof is in the sound, and if you like it - that is probably all that matters!

On a similar note, I heard the earlier 6C33 power tubes are of higher quality than the latter versions. Has anyone heard the same? If so, how can I tell which is which?

Default Swap 6N6P in Audio Research Preamp

Has anyone tried a 6h30 swap with a 6N6P on a Audio Research LS17 SE or other recent ARC Preamp ? If yes is this a "as is" swap or will it need some kind of mod? And how was it?

I have many pairs of the so called super tubes from late 70's, 80's and 90's all give me an overhaul different stage presentation. I suggest finding a reputable tube re-seller that will allow you to try different vintages to find what works best for you.
Best of Luck,
John
