Hi Jim,

Not familiar with the GigaFoil/Keces approach. What was involved with that?

Cheers, Stephen

Puma,

I use this filter with great success and allows me to buy the shortest run of top quality ethernet cables. The Keces is a nice LPS to power the GigaFoil.

The GigaFOILv4 – INLINE is the newest generation of the FOIL™ brand of Ethernet filters. Based on patented Fiber Optic Isolation Link (“FOIL”) technology, the GigaFOILv4 – INLINE utilizes fiber optics and specially designed circuitry to prevent 99.99999999% of electromagnetic interference (ie “Noise”) from passing through the filter.

Any idea why? Most posts I have read seem to love this device.

IF fiber optics does indeed not pass on noise and does not generate its own or any other sort of artifacts, the concept seems to make a lot of sense to me.

A quick, although topical, side trip. If there is noise in Ethernet, why not simply use WiFi?

I had to return the entire GigaFOIL, AQ Diamond and Keces LPS set-up. With this in the loop from my Orbi Network, my switch and Upsampler all I had drop after drop out. After more than a week of fiddling I couldn't take it any more and removed everything and have had no dropouts since.

I will say that the GigaFoil and AQ sounded nice when I could listen. The jury was out on the Keces power supply as I thought it made it everything sound a bit thick. There were just too many dropouts to give it a fair listen.

Good question. As I mentioned in my long intro, I was experiencing a lot of dropouts using Wifi.

In my case, my small ~1000 sq ft townhome is a veritable Wifi "black hole"...it just sucks Wifi into "the ether". I can literally look from the living room straight down the hall into the bedroom and see the router on my desk. Yet still, my Wifi connectivity is poor, even using a TOTL TP-Link Wifi Extender with respect to streaming audio data and also streaming on-demand content from DirecTV. Also, the Wifi router that extends the Wifi network that the Ethernet cable plugs into also produces noise.

Sorry, it’s DJM Electronics and the guys below reference the Gigafoil from their product line.

I was one of the first to flip the coin and try this in my system, including the aftermarket power supply.

Does it work sense, yes, more profound depending on ones setup with components and cables.

I would imagine better for some than others. I know Still One Jim had network issues causing dropouts.

If it makes sense, we can list a separate thread on this although similar to what also is being said here with fiber optics.
