X-Pro1 does "peak action" again! IRL at Sonoma
When I posted a thread in the UK-based Fuji X-series forum that the X-Pro1 was capable of shooting peak action sports with my series of NHRA Drag racing shots (also posted here), I got an unbelievable amount of sh*t from them that it wasn't peak action, drag race cars don't move fast during burnouts, blah, blah, blah....only reinforced my previous knowledge of them being a bunch of wankers...but, I digress.
Any-hoo...how about some "peak action" using the X-Pro1 to shoot Indy Racing League race cars? Will Power enters his pit box... and exits hard on the throttle... Ryan Hunter-Reay enters his pit box and the boys jump into action... and then smokes the tires on exit... You want panning...I got'cher panning shots right here... Josef Newgarden in Turn 4... How about a five-frame sequence of Simon Pagenaud entering his pit box?

You do have good seats at the races Stephen!
Your vantage points, combined with those superb Fuji optics and the incredible talent of the guy pushing the button, have once again put us photo-neophites to shame. Great pics Stephen! Meanwhile, I guess I'll head back to the races and try again . . . . . .

You've got the technique down, Julian. If you shoot them coming at you, you don't need to pan and don't need that fast shutter speed.
Just be careful. Sometimes you lose your depth perception looking through the lens. I'd hate to see you get a bad case of splinters if one of those racers ran into you. |

Hi John,
Are you referring to Julian or to me?

I was kidding Julian about his soapbox derby pictures. But now that you mention it, is that loss of depth perception something that ever bothered you at a race? I know I got too close for comfort with a rattlesnake once when trying to take pics of him all coiled to strike.
