The fact that the folks at Oppo are right on top of things after making a $995 sale, and McIntosh accepts NO responsibility at 10X the price point, illustrates the company's arrogance and VERY poor customer service. I just find it very hard to believe. The fact that we accept it, is worse.

Where are you storing all of these 24/192 files that you cannot play? If it is a laptop, then connect the Oppo via USB for the few tracks that are available. I can't tell from the Oppo manual if that is a USB input since it is not grouped with the RCA & Optical digital inputs on the back of the 95. I am glad McIntosh did not wait to release the unit until the USB was ready or many of us would still be using the MCD-500 plus needing like the Esoteric D-07 for 24/192. The MCD-1100 handles 24/176 & 24/192 just fine via the digital inputs. I just can't find much music except the SOS that I have owned before.

I understand your frustration, but don't think the USB is the only feature that the makes it 10x the price point. This is a feature that I will not likely use and I really like this unit. You would be better off buying an Olive system and use the MCD1100's digital coax input than selling it......

While I tend to agree with you, Penthouse-D, I guess at this point I'm also with those who are recommending the "cut and run" strategy. Anything outside of work that continues raising the blood pressure just isn't worth it, in my opinion. This hobby is for fun and enjoyment! :-)

The truly great news is that the proceeds will go a long way toward some of the best $10k and under DACs around. A few that come to mind are the Berkeley Alpha DAC-2, dCS Debussy, Weiss DAC202. The Stereophile measurements for the Debussy and Weiss are really pretty amazing.

If you were to sell the 1100, which DAC would you demo first?

Cheers

I am an 1100 future owner on the fence and once the firmware is done will get one.

I know MC take their sweet A$$ time, but then again they do put a lot into qualitly control too and area small outfit.

I have no horse (either dead or alive) in this race as I do not own this unit. I'm 100% in Penthouse-D's corner as I find it unbelievable that I have been reading about this issue for so long with no resolution. On many of these threads the responses are don't waste your time ranting about or worrying about these issues. I don't understand that line of thinking as I like to be informed of the latest happenings/updates and what people think about their products. If the post is not interesting to you, just skip it.

Reading this thread makes me think of the days when the standard way to listen to music was on LP's, and we didn't have any of this gobble-de-gook digital nonsense...

and in those days McIntosh was very much near the top, if not at the top... Pssssst, and in those days,McIntosh, didn't even make a turntable!

As I see it, firmware upgrades, happen as often as new moons. I doubt any company will be able to keep up.

Steve.......I have two MCD1100 SACD/CD/DAC players, both of which are exceptional performers, so I guess you might say I have two dogs in this hunt. The USB firmware update has been promised, so what the heck else can a person do but wait for it. Honestly, it is silly to continue complaining. We have all previously expressed our dissatisfaction at one time or another. The MCD1100 is a wonderful unit that has provided me with endless hours of premium performance in two separate sound systems. It's not like the USB input is not useful. It presently handles 16/44.1 perfectly. If the laptop user's group demands a higher resolution, the coaxial and optical inputs on the MCD1100 are fully functional, so use them.

I agree with Jim's (Still-One) post. I would still be listening to my two older MCD500's if the MCD1100 had not been released. Enjoying the elevated performance of the MCD1100 has been well worth owning while waiting for the USB firmware update. I won't be using the USB input, but I still want my two players to have full advertised functionality should I ever decide to sell them. Has the wait for the USB firmware been frustrating? Yes. Have I enjoyed every minute listening to the MCD1100 despite that issue? Absolutely. Would I sell my two MCD1100's, even at full price, over this issue? No I wouldn't. Everyone has an opinion. This is mine.

Jim.......Are your McIntosh components registered with McIntosh? If not, how would you possibly expect McIntosh to be able to email you about them?

Yes. From a recent post on another discussion. Chuck Hinton said, "we're working on it". It's the principle of the matter. I work very hard to net 10K. If I give it to a company in exchange for goods. They should operate as promised or give me a full refund or some sort of credit. Don't give me this BS, we're working on it. Not for a$10K CD player. Not for over a year. Yeah, I should go buy an Olive to get my $10K CD player to work properly. What about my $4000 MR88 tuner that didn't work properly? And the C50 I briefly owned that was a complete fiasco? As much as I wished and hoped, this is not the same McIntosh I admired in my youth. There is NO OTHER premium audio company that has these problems. It's time we stop being so complacent.
