Dan
I do not think I will move away from the MBL camp, I am very pleased with the 111f's. That said, I have heard so many good systems over the last couple of years that I am sure that I could find happiness with many of the speakers I have auditioned. Some might require swapping other gear (amps etc) to get it right. I have heard the Sasha's with several different amps and can see why many will gravitate to them. ( I liked them with the Esoteric amps). I think I have mentioned that the YG/Pass combo was awfully good. I have heard the newer Focal's sound both good a bad depending on amps. I have mixed feeling about the Maxx 3's. They do everything good, nothing wrong but they just don't excite me. (maybe that list price has something to do with it ) Again, maybe I need to hear then with different amps.

I think what he and I noticed in a not so big room was that the MAXX3's bass can't get nearly as deep and big as it can in a bigger space. It's not that they won't work. Like I said, I have never heard Miles Davis' trumpet as I have from the MAXX3s. Simply awesome. Had me dumbfounded with a big grin on my face.

My problem in our game room has been not being able to find anything big enough to fill the space. First, ProAc 3.8s, then the big Revel Salon Ultima 2s, then the Revels with a Rel B-1. That got me close, especially when the MX-Rs were replaced by the ballsy DS450.
My dealer was a bit disappointed when I called him to let him know I had purchased the 111F's. We had scheduled a tentative date when his guys were going to place some Sasha's in my room to demo. He would have brought either the Maxx 3's or Sasha's. If I was going to spend Maxx 3 dollars on speakers and at this point I am not sure I ever will, I would have had to spend more time listening to a few others in that price point. Specifically, MBL 101's, Magico's and possibly the YG's and Focal again.

I really believe that most of the gear we talk about here is really good and that with a few exceptions I would be happy most of it. I gravitated towards McIntosh because of it design/looks, it is expensive but far from crazy expensive, it holds its resale, and it sounds great. I really believe there are trade off's with every product. You go with what makes you listen more.

I have tried to listen to Meridian but the local dealer doesn't cary any of the good stuff. A 808.3 plus some 5200's or 7200's and a server would be nice to hear.

Jim.......I agree with you. The are many wonderful audio products that could easily replace the systems I now own, and I would be just as happy. It is probably a good thing I don't have more discretionary dollars for audio. I could easily have five or six "showrooms", all completely different, all extremely pleasurable.

Dan, you have stated it perfectly. This hobby can be like a drug, everything looks good and the ads pull you in. There are no big leaps in quality to be made, just different sounds. I listen to these other systems and they sound great, then I come home turn mine on and ask, why would I want to change. Just tweakin' it from now on. Famous last words. :
