I would call a 1984 Fisher 3-way speaker to XRT1K's a significant leap in quality. Of course - at a huge price.
Everything is famous last words until we find the next thing we want/lust for - and then do whatever we can to help stimulate the economy or provide some extra cash for a friend...

Granting if the amps are capable, can the Sophia 3 really go down to 20hz as their specs says in their website:Wilson Audio: Sophia Series 3: Specifications
+/-3 dB 20 Hz - 22.5 kHz Room Average Response I noticed that the Sophia 2 can only go down to around 29 hz. that is quite a big difference. Anyone care to clarify the figures. thanks! |

I have not run a sweep to be sure of the numbers so I will just share an anecdotal experience. I was playing ELP's Brain Salad Surgery for my son the other night when one of the sustained very low organ notes kicked in. My son says, "Man, those Fathoms sure sound sweet!" I responded, "They sure do - except they are NOT TURNED ON." If you feed the Sophias the power, they have all the low end one could want for music.

wow- sounds like i wouldn't be needing subs for them for two channel audio.
are these speakers dependent on room boundaries for bass reinforcement ? or free standing they already have sufficient bass down to the 20 hz region or mid 20 hz region ? |

i'm assembling an all new system. simplicity is my main objective. the sophia 3's are all i have left to purchase. i wonder if Wilson offers an easy erase finish for children's crayons. BAT 300XSE w/phono, krell 350, VPI Classic w/Lyra Kleos, Cardas Golden Reference throughout.

from what i've read i'll need to be patient allowing everything to "break-in" all at once, although i seriously doubt this system will sound unsatisfying from the get-go.

Anyone ever seen Wilsons in the new matte black finish that seems to be the trend with Ferrari now and some higher ends sports cars?
