The McIntosh classified on Audiogon has always been popular. There are a lot of McIntosh owners out there, and upgrading is often on the minds of high-end owners. The present McIntosh line has some wonderful equipment to lust over, and this causes upgrade-itis. I would wager a guess that the majority of the McIntosh gear up for sale is to help fund a new piece of McIntosh gear.

I would also suspect there are some 'extra' pieces floating around due the recent Trade-Up program.

BuffaloBill.......You are probably right about that. I hadn't considered all the trade-in gear that needs a new home.

That was an excellent trade-up program that I missed out on. I purchased a used C2200 two prior to the end of the program and could have gotten $500 more for trading up to a 'new' model preamp. Of course I would have added about $1500 to get the new piece.

I bought my MC501s and C220 on Agon and am quite pleased with the condition of the gear I bought and the price. As will all sight unseen purchases, communication is key to the transaction. I must say my eBay experiences helped me carefully weave my way through a couple of purchases for what is significant money to me. Overall I am quite pleased with all of the outcomes.

I just purchased a Mcintosh amp from Audiogon, the 1st two owners lost their jobs and were forced to sell. I was a bit skeptic about buying it but so far the bad luck hasn't follow it. Might change next week :-)

I've had good experiences with AG. But my concern with AG is no recourse if it's a scam. eBay & Pay Pal protects all eBay purchases, AG doesn't.

If you are concerned and we should all be careful, make sure you pay and get paid with US Postal Money Orders. Mail fraud is not what any of these people want to mess with.

Using Paypal funded with a credit card protects you on Agon. If a seller tries to jerk you around, return their merchandise and open a dispute with your credit card company. They will issue your refund to your card, and chargeback the funds from Paypal. Seems to me that there's a significantly higher volume of Mac gear on Agon in 2009 than ever before...

I believe you are correct... I only use PayPal now - when buying and selling. And I've done both on Agon and have been very pleased with the outcome.

There is a lot of product on Agon and there are a "lot" of good deals to be had... but the good ones go within hours... sometimes even in minutes! So you have to lurk often and be ready to jump. On the other hand, there is a lot of over priced equipment from both dealers and consumers out there that will be hard to move until they do some more homework and realize where they need to be to make the sale. ... just my 2 cents...
