Default Tannoy Canterbury

An audiophile friend and I made a visit to VAS (where I dropped off a couple of cartridges for some work) and noticed that VPI was literally 'next door'. We dropped in to VPI when we left VAS and found Harry Weisfeld going thru some LPs just inside the entrance.

We ask if it was possible to have a tour. Harry found Mat and we were given a most complete tour and explanation of everything. Harry & Mat could not have been more gracious and accommodating. Once our tour was finished Harry ask if we would like to visit the "VPI House" which is only a few blocks away and has several large listening rooms. You can guess our answer.

We followed Harry to the house. As we walked into the entrance hallway we were greeted by about 5000 LPs in a shelf along the length of hall. Into the main listening room on the 1st floor were a pair of new Tannoy Canterbury speakers breaking-in on white noise.

Harry got to work on making the wiring changes needed to listen to the Canterburys with Harry's Class D PS Audio amps & McIntosh preamp. The sources were an RtR, DVD & VPI DD Avenger. There was some sort of feedback issue with the DVD which we did not have time/inclination to solve, so we listened to the RtR and vinyl, which were both sublime.

Harry and me.

Here is how the Canterburys sound from the RtR on a cell-phone recording.

In the other 1st floor listening room was the new ARC Ref6/Ref160M set-up that will be pushing the Canterburys at Capital Audiofest next month. Needless to say, there were thousands of additional LPs and hundreds of RtR tapes stored everywhere. Into the basement rooms where there were a couple of dozen more speakers from mild to wild, along with various electronics and, you guessed it, more LPs and RtR tapes.

A great visit and the Canterburys will definitely fill a room with some great sounding music.

It was fun visit. If I wasn't getting up at 4 a.m. to make tomorrow's match I would have been at today's "VPI House" soiree.

Awesome! Hope they enjoy the Tannoys. I've been running Canterbury (5 years SE, now 5 years GR) with vinyl-only in my main rig for exactly 10 years now. I have spare drivers for the long haul ahead

OMG... what a beautiful system. Having a pair of Tannoys myself I love them, though I have the vintage model with 15" Monitor Golds. The number of records is something that unfortunately I most probably will never own as the price of such collection is worth couple of pairs of Tannoy speakers :-)

Harry has, unfortunately, inherited a few quite large collections of LPs. He is selling them at reasonable prices if you are ever in the area.
