Customer support answer me : an upgrade is coming soon (for summer) to become USB port compatible with El Capitan Os X for for original owners.

They advise to take a M2TECH Hiface 2 USB to SP/DIF Interface as an alternate solution.

Eric

Another solution instead of using hiface is to get hold of a good quality optical toslink cable and use the dac opt input.
I did that (with a Mac mini on the other end) and it sounds fine for very little money.
My few hi rez files are limited to 96 khz with no audible consequences in my opinion.
Hope this may help.

Dac8 is a wonderful sounding machine.

That what I do actually.

And i' keep my old Cambridge Audio dac connected by USB to my Synology NAS Server and by coaxial to my Dac 8.
From my server, it's limited at 48 Khz.

I find 96 better, so i'd like to be able to compare with 176 & 192 soon!

Eric

I change for the M2tech hiFace, a gift of my retailer!

It's very nice, i'm pleased to listen now audio hifh resolution with my dac8.

I put it directly on my serveur nas and connect to the dac 8 with a coaxial RealCable.

Default DAC8 Driver 1.37.9 does not install

i need some help with a new driver that i downloaded from ARC. I have written to them and they have not replied. What's with that? This is an elite company and they have walled themselves off from customers... no voice mail possibility and no response to email.
Anyway, the driver installs but then i get a message from Windows 7 that says DAC8 driver not found.
Can someone help me?

May be this 2016 answer of AR Customer Service would help you :

"Hello Eric,

Audio Research has determined that an updated USB board and firmware are needed to communicate with the USB port of the latest Apple computers and the latest operating system, El Capitan. For DAC8s that were under warranty as of September 30, 2015 (the release date of El Capitan), Audio Research is pleased to offer this update under warranty. The updated USB board and firmware are under development by engineering and we expect updates will be available starting early summer.

Audio Research has also identified an alternate solution. This is the M2TECH Hiface 2 USB to SP/DIF Interface. When inserted into the USB port of the Apple computer this product provides a RCA or Coaxial connection to the SP/DIF inputs of the DAC8. This link to the manufacturer’s website offers more detail: http://www.m2tech.biz/en/hiface2.html. Extensive sound room testing has shown that the M2TECH provides sound quality commensurate with that of a direct USB connection.

If you prefer this solution and are an original owner, please contact Audio Research customer service at service@audioresearch.com . We will ship one to you at no charge. Please note that acceptance of the alternate solution makes the DAC8 ineligible for a free installation of the hardware and firmware.

Again, thank you for your patience as Audio Research works through this difficult problem. I look forward to helping you.

Best Regards,"

I choose to connect my NAS Synology with a M2Tech Hiface and i'm very happy with it.
